Project Trust is a series of group meetings held in Tulsa area schools aimed at improving the relationship between students and law enforcement. The meetings involve a selected group of students, Tulsa Police Officers, Tulsa Public Schools officers, and school administrative personnel/teachers. The meetings consist of forum-style group discussions, small group discussions, and practical demonstrations that focus on community/police relations, law enforcement procedures, and safety measures.
The Tulsa Police Department has had and continues to have a vested interest in community policing. Officers, at any rank, are encouraged to get involved in a “grassroots” effort to work within the community we serve. A significant and important population of our community is the Tulsa Public school system and surrounding schools.
In keeping with the philosophy of community policing, TPD believes that engaging with students will be very beneficial, both in the short- and long term.
TPD will facilitate community engagement meetings with students that are community/school-specificand are held at the group level.
The goal is to look at several key safety measures in each of the following specific areas: what process has been put in place in the past, what new information is available, what issues need to be examined, and identification of plans to resolve those issues.
